“Jesus said to them, ‘Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how to
catch men and women instead of perch and bass.’ They didn’t ask questions, but simply dropped their
nets and followed.” Matthew 4:19-20 “The Message”
Most people celebrate a child's accomplishments, honor student, graduation, promotion, marriage, etc. We do not celebrate our failures as parents! When a child goes away and ends up in a jam, loving parents will help their child, even restore the child but celebrate with a party?
Heaven’s Light was delivered carefully wrapped in the small package of a baby one clear night so long ago to this small blue planet called Earth. In spite of coming as a winsome baby, this special Gift was not readily received by either the leaders of that day or the world in general. It was left to shepherds warming themselves by the campfire while they watched their flocks to bring greetings for this very special Gift from Heaven
“The king will answer them, ‘I can guarantee this truth: Whatever you did for one of my brothers or sisters, no matter how unimportant they seemed you did for me.” Matthew 25:40 God’s Word Version. My father-in-law, Harry, has long been laid to rest. I’m convinced that when Jesus returns, Harry will be among those who are awakened from the sleep of death to meet King Jesus in the clouds and go home with Him.
“…He has covered me with the robe of righteousness.” Isaiah 61:10
When I was a child I was enamored with my mother’s closet full of shoes. I hoped one day to try them on and actually wear them, but alas, when the age arrived, my feet had outgrown my mother’s size. Being tall and having feet to match I’ve learned several things not to do when looking for new shoes. One is to never buy shoes from a catalogue.
"The Lord is in his holy Temple; let everyone on earth be silent in his presence." Habakkuk 2:20 Good News Bible. In all the turmoil that went on in the book of Habakkuk this verse describes to us that there can be peace and quiet in our storms of life.
“I want to praise the name of God with a song. I want to praise its greatness with a song of thanksgiving. This will please the Lord more than sacrificing an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs. Oppressed people will see this and rejoice. May the hearts of those who look to God for help be refreshed.” Psalms 69:30-32. God’s Word Version.
The Big Piney River flowed slowly by passing a cave where we went spelunking when the days were very hot in Missouri. This cave had a colorful history being the hideout for bootleggers during prohibition days. They could stand at the entrance to the cave and watch for any boats coming down the river and spot revenuers before they could see the bootleggers.
In the book of Job a conversation occurs between God and Satan have. Satan accuses Job of not loving God but only worshiping Him out of fear.
This is also what he does with each of us. He comes to each of us and tells us we cannot worship or have a relationship with the Holy God because we are too evil and too sin-stained.
I looked with amazement at the envelope. It was addressed to “Uncle Mel and Aunt Peggy” at a 12 year old obsolete address! There was no evidence on the envelope that it had been sent back to the sender (a niece) and resent to us. Someone had written in the correct address and it had gotten to me before Christmas!
I was wandering hopeless and helpless in the desert of my life. It seems that I've been here forever in this desolate place. Devoid of green life, cool water, refreshing flowers covered with dew, I thought to myself, "death is preferable to this!" But I did not know how to end the pain, suffering and degradation that I felt.
Into this desert came a Lover.
Hanging in our shower is a shower clock. On it is a ring to hold a towel or washcloth. This seems to be it’s only purpose. One day while taking a soothing soaking hot shower I noticed the second hand seemed to be stuck on “9”.
“Even before they finish praying to me I will answer their prayers.” Isaiah 65:24 Good News Bible.
After taking care of business, Rhonda (not her real name) told me this personal experience. For years she had felt financial pressures and let her credit rating slip because she was afraid if she paid one bill there wouldn’t be enough money for other things.
“Do not conform yourselves to the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God – what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect.” Romans 12:2 Good News Bible
While watching a weekly national television church service the camera focused on a woman singing in the choir. The woman singing had to be the homeliest woman in the choir.
December 26, 2004 was a day most of the world will not forget. Words like Tsunami, Phuket Island, Sri Lanka and all the tragic pictures of the 9.0 magnitude earthquake center and other exotic places of Asia came rushing into our living rooms. All this after a peaceful Christmas, at least as peaceful as times can get in this troubled world.
Verse: You will reap exactly what you plant.. Galations 6:7
Some years ago when I started my insurance agency I occasionally would contact someone who already had insurance with the company I wrote with. It has never been a policy to take another agents business for my own. Unfortunately not every agent abides by these work ethics.
I was driving through Tacoma Park, Maryland in the springtime and observed that spring is the time that this city really looks beautiful. All the dogwood trees and azaleas really make the town sparkle. This suburb of Washington DC began as a summer time get-a-way for District residents. Over the years the town has aged, sometimes not so gracefully.
