GNT: Good News Translation

MSG: The Message

Deuteronomy 30 (MSG) Here’s what will happen. While you’re out among the nations where God has dispersed you and the blessings and curses come in just the way I have set them before you, and you and your children take them seriously and come back to God, your God, and obey him with your whole heart and soul according to everything that I command you today, God, your God, will restore everything you lost; he’ll have compassion on you; he’ll come back and pick up the pieces from all the places where you were scattered. No matter how far away you end up, God, your God, will get you out of there and bring you back to the land your ancestors once possessed. It will be yours again. He will give you a good life and make you more numerous than your ancestors.

God, your God, will cut away the thick calluses on your heart and your children’s hearts, freeing you to love God, your God, with your whole heart and soul and live, really live. God, your God, will put all these curses on your enemies who hated you and were out to get you.

And you will make a new start, listening obediently to God, keeping all his commandments that I’m commanding you today. God, your God, will outdo himself in making things go well for you: you’ll have babies, get calves, grow crops, and enjoy an all-around good life. Yes, God will start enjoying you again, making things go well for you just as he enjoyed doing it for your ancestors.

But only if you listen obediently to God, your God, and keep the commandments and regulations written in this Book of Revelation. Nothing halfhearted here; you must return to God, your God, totally, heart and soul, holding nothing back.

This commandment that I’m commanding you today isn’t too much for you, it’s not out of your reach. It’s not on a high mountain – you don’t have to get mountaineers to climb the peak and bring it down to your level and explain it before you can live it. And it’s not across the ocean – you don’t have to send sailors out to get it, bring it back, and then explain it before you can live it. No. The word is right here and now – so near as the tongue in your mouth, as near as the heart in your chest. Just do it!

Look at what I’ve done for you today: I’ve placed in front of you Life and Good, Death and Evil

And I command you today: Love God, your God. Walk in his ways. Keep his commandments, regulations, and rules so that you will live, really live, live exuberantly; blessed by God, your God, in the land you are about to enter and possess.

But I warn you: If you have a change of heart, refuse to listen obediently, and willfully go off to serve and worship other gods, you will most certainly die. You won’t last long in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.

I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you today: I place before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose life so that you and your children will live. And love God, your God, listening obediently to him, firmly embracing him. Oh yes, he is life itself, a long life settled on the soil that God, your God, promised to give your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Psalms 23:4 (GNT)
"Even if I go through the deepest darkness,
I will not be afraid, Lord,
for you are with me.
Your shepherd’s rod and staff
protect me."

Psalms 34:22 (GNT)
"The Lord will save his people;
Those who go to him for protection will be spared."

Psalms 103: 13, 14 (GNT)
"As a father is kind to his children,
so the Lord is kind to those who honor him.
He knows what we are made of;
he remembers that we are dust."

Psalms 107:17-20 (GNT)
“Some were fools, suffering because of their sins
And because of their evil
They couldn’t stand the sight of food
and were close to death.
Then in their trouble they called to the Lord,
and he saved them from their distress.
He healed them with his command
and saved them from the grave.”

Proverbs 14:25 (GNT)
“Reverence for the Lord gives confidence and security to a man and his family.”

Isaiah 40:29 (GNT)
“He strengthens those who are weak and tired.”

Isaiah 41:10 (GNT)
“Do not be afraid – I am with you!
I am your God – let nothing terrify you!
I will make you strong and help you;
I will protect you and save you.”

Isaiah 49:14-18 (GNT)
“But the people of Jerusalem said,
‘The Lord has abandoned us!
He has forgotten us.’
So the Lord answers,
‘Can a woman forget her own baby
and not love the child she bore?
Even if a mother should forget her child,
I will never forget you.
Jerusalem, I can never forget you!
I have written your name on the palms of my hands.
Those who will rebuild you are coming soon,
and those who destroyed you will leave.
Look around and see what is happening!
Your people are assembling – they are coming home!
As surely as I am the living God,
you will be proud of your people,
as proud as a bride is of her jewels.”

Isaiah 58:7-11 (GNT)
“Share your food with the hungry and open your homes to the homeless poor. Give clothes to those who have nothing to wear, and do not refuse to help your own relatives. They my favor will shine on you like the morning sun, and your wounds will be quickly healed. I will always be with you to save you; my presence will protect you on every side. When you pray, I will answer you. When you call to me, I will respond.

If you put an end to oppression, to every gesture of contempt, and to every evil word; If you give food to the hungry and satisfy those who are in need, then the darkness around you will turn to the brightness of noon. And I will always guide you and satisfy good things. I will keep you strong and well. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring of water that never goes dry.”

Jeremiah 29:4-14 (MSG)
“This is the Message from God-of-the-Angel-Armies, Israels God, to all the exiles I’ve taken from Jerusalem to Babylon:
‘Build houses and make yourselves at home.
‘Put in gardens and eat what grows in that country.
‘Marry and have children. Encourage your children to marry and have children so that you’ll thrive in that country and not waste away.
‘Make yourselves at home there and work for the country’s welfare.
‘Pray for Babylons’ well-being. If things go well for Babylon, things will go well for you.’
Yes. Believe it or not, this is the Message from God-of-the-Angel-Armies, Israel’s God: ‘Don’t let all those so-called preachers and know-it-alls who are all over the place there take you in with their lies. Don’t pay any attention to the fantasies they keep coming up with to please you. They’re a bunch of liars preaching lies – and claiming I sent them! I never sent them, believe me.’ God’s Decree! This is God’s Word on the subject: ‘As soon as Babylon’s seventy years are up and not a day before, I’ll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home. I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out – plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.
‘When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen.
‘When you come looking for me, you’ll find me.
‘Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.’ God’s Decree.
‘I’ll turn things around for you. I’ll bring you back from all the countries into which I drove you’ – God’s Decree – ‘bring you home to the place from which I sent you off into exile. You can count on it.’”
